St Michael Students Shine at Annual Coffee House

Life Skills Students Support Community Living in Kemptville

The Life Skills class had the opportunity to work and help out at the Annual Pancake Breakfast in support of Community Living Kemptville this past May 1st at the Kemptville Municipal Centre. The students cooked pancakes, sausages, helped at the cash, cleared and set tables and oh, yes ate some pancakes! The students got to meet Max Keeping and participate in a flag raising ceremony with the Mayor of Kemptville. It was a very good event that helped raise money for Community Living!

Grade 12 Students Demonstrate Leadership and Foster Reading

Ms. Howe’s grade 12 Writer’s Craft students, at St. Michael Catholic High School, were asked to create a children’s story book that demonstrated a moral or theme, and would interest children ages 2-7. During Catholic Education Week Ms. Howe’s class took their books to Holy Cross on Thursday May 9, to take a moment to read and share their creations with Mrs. McGahey’s grade two classes. This was a great opportunity for the grade 12 writers to get feedback on their work, while demonstrating leadership and encouraging students to have a passion for reading at an early age.

Ceremonial Passing of the Cross

St Michael Grade 11 & 12 students participated in the annual passing of the cross at the school's final mass on Wednesday, May 22nd.  As per tradition, Grade 12 students carry the cross to the waiting group of Grade 11 students and collectively hand it over symbolizing the passing of the responsibilities, both spiritually and academically to the 2013-14 Senior Class.

On April 17th, the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario sponsored a culinary skills competition at St Michael CHS. From left to right,  Luke, Tyler, Devon, Taylor, Nick, and Brad started by making a corn chowder. This was followed by a blackened salmon fillet with rice pilaf. As a dessert, these young chefs prepared Peach and Blueberry dumplings.
In addition to the first place gold medal, St Michael's Brad Beatty was awarded a prize package from Algonquin college, which included a chef top, a baking utensil toolbox, a cook book and a mug. Tyler McMartin, also from St Michael secured the second place silver medal and received a pasta maker from Hendrix Restaurant supply in Brockville, Ontario. Placing third and securing the bronze medal was Devon from St Mary CHS. For his efforts, Devon received a  voucher for George Brown College's Chef House restaurant in Toronto. Other members of the competition won t-shirts and carrying totes from Canadore College. All competitors received a chef top and a maple rolling pin from St. Michael CHS.
Special thanks to judges Robin Reil, Alex Moure and Jake Charlebois for their dedication to this culinary competition.

Three years ago the St. Mike's community mourned the loss of Jaimie Anderson, a young Mustang graduate who unfortunately lost her battle with cancer. Jaimie's memory is honoured through The Jaimie Anderson Parliamentary Internship. She was a remarkable young woman who had a passion for politics and even served as an intern on Parliament Hill herself. St Michael CHS Remembrance Day

In tribute to the fallen brave heroes, St Michael students pay homage to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our beliefs and way of life. Students in Ms. Lefebvre's Grade 10 French Canadian History class researched soldiers who died in the War to End All Wars and wrote letters to them thanking them for their courage and sacrifice. In front is a cross made by Jamie Taylor in Mr. Campeau's Grade 11 Technology class. The St Michael student body will take time to remember our heroes on Friday, November 8th.
Our grade 7 and 8 participated in the Annual Remembrance Day Legion competition. Many students entered their poems or posters, and St. Michael was very successful. April Rilley and Nicole Giles won third place for the colored poster, and for the black & white poster, Noah Shaver won second place. As for the English poems, Kaitlin Estabrooks won third place, Peyton Horning won second and the first place went to Quinn Meek .
