Alumni Update: Katie LeClair, Valedictorian for Bishop's Class of 2013

St. Mike's is proud to announce that Katie LeClair, Mustang Class of 2009, received the honour of serving as valedictorian for Bishop's University's Class of 2013.  She is seen in the photo above receiving her award from Principal Michael Goldbloom. (It is notable is that former Premier of Quebec, Mr. Jean Charest, is among the dignitaries applauding in the background).  Katie has accepted a position with Bishop's as a Recruiting and Admissions Officer.  We look forward to seeing her in her new role when she visits our school this fall.

Mustang alum Sarah Glenn recently played her final home game for Texas Southern University.  Sarah, of the St. Mike's Class of 2010, was a multi-sport star in high school but focused on soccer at the collegiate level.  She has helped her Division 1 NCAA TSU Tigers to qualify for their league championship tournament this season.  Sarah has also carried on her outstanding performance in the classroom at the post-secondary level and plans to pursue dentistry after graduation.  The St. Mike's community says: "Congratulations Sarah!"

On the sports front, Ryan has also been selected to play for the University of King's College (Halifax, Nova Scotia) basketball team.  Ryan continues to balance his studies with his humanitarian work for The Ryan's Well Foundation.

Congratulations to St. Michael Mustang alumna Marieka Ouimette, Class of 2009!  Marieka is pictured here with Coach A. MacDonald at the 2008-2009 St. Michael Athletic Awards.  Since her freshman year, Marieka has been a starter for the Niagara College Knights volleyball team.

Female Athlete of the Year - Marieka Ouimette

Joey Martins, head coach of the Niagara College Knights Women's Volleyball team had the following to say about Marieka:

"Marieka has been an instrumental part of the success to our volleyball team. As one of our team captains, she led through example on the court, and was amongst the top players on our team in points per game.

As a student-athlete, who never played Club Level Volleyball, she was able to excel at the collegiate level. Marieka opened the eyes of many people around the league this year. Her strong season also captured the attention of coaches from Syracuse University, who are interested in having Marieka attend their NCAA Division I school.

In my opinion Most Valuable Players aren't just leaders on the court, they are also leaders off the court. Marieka has instilled her trust into all of the girls on the team, and is a constant help to her teammates.

As a graduating player it will not be easy to fill her shoes. We wish Marieka the best of luck in her future endeavours. Thank you Marieka for your contributions to our program, and congratulations."

In the past, Loon Choir has graciously loaned its music to St. Michael video presentations such as "The 10 Year Celebration of Excellence" as well as last year's Vimy Ridge history trip video.   Here is a sample of Loon Choir's music:
